Tenses in English

A tense is a form taken by a verb to show the time of an action.

PRESENT TENSE

Present Indefinite Tense:

Present Tense is used to express habitual action. It may refer future also. 

Present Tense hum tab istamal krtey hein jab hum humari rozana ki habits ko zahir krtey hein. Aap rozana, office, school jaten hey toh yeh app ki habits hoye. Aur kabhi kabhi future k decisions.

Examples of sentences::

01. He reaches the office in time.

02. She may visit the city next month.

01. Yeh office mein rozana time pr ponchtey hein.

02. Yeh (larki) shahid next onth shair mein aayi

Present Continous Tense:

Present Continous is used for action going on at the time of speaking. It also refers to future tense.

Whatever is happening right now is present continous and

can be described in sentence by putting ING.

Present Continous hum tb istamal krtey hein jab  right now matlab k abhi k abhi jo bhi horaha hey us ko zahir krne k liya. Jesa k app abhi yeh parh rahey oh, toh is ka matlab k app: You are reading this page. Hum Present Continous ko "ing" lga kr show krtey hein.

Examples of sentences::

01. She is reading a book.

02. They are playing soccer.

01. Woh (larki) kitaab parh rhey hey

02. Woh soccer (football) khel rhey hein

Present Perfect Continous: 

It indicates the action which begins in the past and is still continous.

It means, whatever thing begin (has started) in the past and is still going on indicates Present Perfect Continous.

Yeh yeh zahir krta hey k koi bhi cheez maazi me shuru hoyi 

hon aur abhi tak chl rhey hon to us ko yeh present perfect continous tense kaha jata hey.

Examples of sentences::

01. He has been using sleeping for one hour.

02. I've been waiting for ten minutes.

01. Yeh pechley ek ghantey se so rha hey. (Matlab abhi tk)

02. Mujhe 10 minutes hogey hein intzaar krtey hoey.

Past Tense

Past Indefinite Tense:

It is used to indicate an action completed in the past. It may expressed habit also.

It is same as the present indefinite tense, but the difference is

it is showing past routine/habits.

Yeh humari past habits ko zahir krta hey.

​

Yeh waisey hey present indefinite tense, par jo faraq hey woh yeh hey k yeh maazi wali routine ko zahir kr rha hey.

Examples of sentences::

01. I received a letter.

02. She went to college at 7:45 A.M, daily.

01.Mujhe khath melha tha

02. Woh (larki) college 7:45 A.M ko jatey thi.

Past Continous Tense:

It indicates an action going on for sometime in the past.

​

It is same as the present continous tense, but the difference

is it is showing past action going on for sometime.

Yeh baat zahir krta hey k jo action past me horaha tha kuch waqt k liya.

​

Yeh present continous tense ki tarah hey, par yeh past waley honey waley action ko zahir kr rha hey.

01. Woh hero ki tarah acting kr rha tha dramey me.

02. Woh ek dosrey se jagra kr rahey thay.

Examples of sentences::

01. He was acting as a hero in the drama.

02. They were quarreling with one another.

Past Perfect Tense:

It denotes an action completed at a given time in the past.

​

It indicates that whatever action completeed at the exact given time in the past.

Yeh yeh baat zahir krta hey k jo koi action maazi me pura 

hova hon usey exact time pr.

​

Examples of sentences::

​

01. I had completed the work on last Sunday.

02. Columbus had discovered America. 

01.Mein kam khatam kr chuka tha itwaar ko.

02. Columbus new America discover keya tha.

Past Perfect Continous:

It refers to an action that began in the past and continued upto a definite time.

​

It indicates that whatever action began in the past and stopped at the definite time.

Yeh yeh baat zahir krta hey k jo bhi cheez past me shuru 

hoyi thi aur khatam hui definite time par.

​

Koi bhi action jo maazi me shuru hova aur khatam hova 

muqrar waqt pr.

Examples of sentences::

​

01. She had been reading for two hours.

02. They had been living here since 1995.

01. Woh (larki) pechley do ghanty se pr rhi thi.

02. Woh yahan par rhey rhey tha 1995 se.

Future Tense

Future Indefinite

It refers to an action which is to be completed in time to come.

​

It means: The action that is gonna complete in time which is upcoming.

Jo action aney waley waqt mein pura honey wala hey yeh

tense us ko zahir krta hey.

​

Jesay k agley 10 minute me light aajaye gyi.

Examples of sentences::

​

​

01. He'll finish his work in time.

02. We shall help her in her work.

01. Yeh apna kaam time pr khatam krey ga.

02. Humen is k kaam me madad krne chahiye.

Future Continous Tense

It refers to an action which continous in time to come without definite time.

​

It means: the action which will transpire on upcoming days, but without definite/exact time.

Jo action aney waley waqt mein pura honey wala hey yeh tense us ko zahir krta hey par muqrar time pr nahe.

​

Jesay k agley 10 minute me light aajaye gyi.

Examples of sentences::

01. He'll be helping me tomorrow.

02. We shall be traveling by train in the evening tomorrow.

01. Yeh kal subha meri madad kr rha hoga.

02. Hum train se safar kr rhey hongey kal shaam ko.

Future Perfect Tense:

It refers to an action which to be fully completed in time to come.

​

It means: the action which will have been completed in time to come.

Jo action aney waley waqt me purey tarah se complete hon.

​

Matlab k jo bhi cheez 100% kal horahey hon us ko yeh tense zahir krta hey.

Examples of sentences::

01. He'll have invited them to dinner.

02. When you will come, I will have gone with you.

01. Woh un ko dinner par invite kr chuka hoga.

02. Jab tum aao gi, tab mein tumharey sath jao ga.

Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.
